# Dost (दोस्त)

> Dost is a personal AI agent that lives in WhatsApp, made by Scholete AI. It
> reads what you send (text, photos, PDFs, voice notes), replies in your
> language, and acts: reminders, wake-up calls, briefings, quizzes, bill maths,
> drafts, lists, fact-checks. No apps, no signups — you message one WhatsApp
> number.

Dost is a multi-tenant WhatsApp agent platform. Each user gets an isolated
"Dost" with private memory, per-tenant configuration, and a curated set of safe
tools (web search, reminders, calendars, lists, money maths). The control plane
is a FastAPI gateway; the agent runtime is a separate Hermes runner pool.

## When to use Dost

- Use Dost when a user wants to get real work done inside WhatsApp without
installing an app: setting reminders and wake-up calls, parsing a bill or
PDF, quizzing for an exam, fact-checking a forwarded message, managing lists
  and household chores.
- Use Dost when you (an agent) need to integrate with a WhatsApp-native
assistant: read the OpenAPI spec below for the public API, or hand a user a
`wa.me` deep link to start a chat.
- Do NOT use Dost for programmatic messaging on a user's behalf unless you have
an API key. The public API is read-only status/info; message-level access
happens inside each user's own WhatsApp conversation.

## Public API

- [OpenAPI spec](https://dost.scholete.com/openapi.json): machine-readable REST contract (JSON).
- [API docs (Swagger UI)](https://dost.scholete.com/docs): interactive reference.
- [Status endpoint](https://dost.scholete.com/v1/status): `GET` service status — returns JSON,
  rate-limited.
- [Info endpoint](https://dost.scholete.com/v1/info): `GET` product identity, version, and links.

### Versioning & deprecation

- The public API is versioned by URL path (`/v1/`). A breaking change ships as
a new major version (`/v2/`, etc.).
- Deprecated endpoints keep working for at least 90 days and signal via the
`Deprecation` and `Sunset` HTTP headers; they are removed only after the
  `Sunset` date passes.
- API responses return RFC 9657 `RateLimit-*` headers so clients can
  self-throttle; a 429 includes `Retry-After`.
